F is for Fandoms: I'm a fangirl, ask me how...

April A-Z Topic:  Fandom
When I tell people I'm a fangirl one of two things always happens.  Either the person I'm talking to nods knowingly and we share a look of geeky solidarity, or they kind of raise their eyebrows and wonder when I'm going to challenge them to a lightsaber fight.

I guess there are two types of people in the world, huh?

The funny thing is, though, these people who look at me askance are more often than not fans themselves ... they just don't realise it.  We all love things, overwhelmingly and unabashedly.  It's just in our nature.  And like it or not, we seem to focus our love on TV, movies, music and books.  The love of the artistic, I guess.

Don't believe me?  Absolutely positive that you're not one of the nerdy brethren and nothing I can say will convince you otherwise?  Well, why don't you take a bit of a look at the video below which I found here and see if you still feel that way by the end of it.

The password, if it asks for one, is "fandom!" (removing the "").

I challenge any of you to not find something in there that makes your heart flip a little and a sense of nostalgia sweep over you.  God knows, I was tearing up by the end.

Just accept it, kids ... you don't choose the fandom life, the fandom life chooses you.

  1. All that proves is that I watch WAAAAAAYYYYYY too much t.v./movies. And that I still love Billy Joel. :)

    Awesome post, my friend!

    1. LOL! Me too. I recognised the majority of them, which means I probably recognised too many.

  2. It had me at Dr. Who and Star Trek. I'll add Sons of Anarchy, The Vikings and Warehouse 13.

  3. Man, I would love to see that in a "slower" mode... so much good stuff in there. Went too fast.

  4. I think I'm in a funky mood as I had no emotional reaction to most of it even though I saw a few of my favorite shows starting with the 80s tv shows, 90s star treks and my beloved Buffy. Ohh and the Brit Coms, I love them. I think the music takes me out of the head space to really remember and love the old stuff.

    1. The music helped set the mood for me, but I can see how it might detract.

  5. Awesome!! There were several things here that- well, it's the stuff that spins my world. RULES my world. And, I'll admit, a couple of things that made me ask, "Wait, people LIKE that?"....but it just goes to show, it takes all kinds :) F is for Fandom, indeed....

    Great work!

  6. Vikings, Warehouse 13, Haven, Downton Abbey, Big Bang Theory, Doctor Who, old episodes of Dynasty. ABBA.. (I know, super geek, right?) :D I'm adding some of my own. Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, Game of Thrones, (the books.) and on and on and on. Believe it or not, i do have a life. Quite a good one, but you know, there's nothing wrong with great TV. Okay, ABBA isn't TV, but anyway...

At any rate, thanks for the follow. I'm glad to reciprocate.

    1. Did you put the ! at the end? That's part of the password. If you did, you could try going through the link in my test to the page I got it from and trying there. Perhaps it's got something to do with how it's embedded.

  10. I can't view the video, even after enter the password fandom! :(

I'm a combination of both groups though. Because while I belong to several fandoms of various popular internet media (such as Homestuck) I've seen the insanity that tends to come with them, so I try and avoid being associated with that insanity. :P

  39. Well, you know my nerdy leanings, so not only did I love the video, but also, I can't help but think, "they could have thought of better Weird Al-esque lyrics." So I did..."Doctor Who, Torchwood too, Neil Labute, Willow's cute, Firefly, Bill Nye, Iron Giant made me cry...We didn't start the fire..." Come ON! Billy Joel laid out the easiest song to parody and these video editing/FBI Warning ignoring guys couldn't make it happen!?!

  40. Oh, dear. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get the video to play for me. Maybe it knew I was a Bear.

Fandom. Yes. I am a fan of wide open spaces. Alpine meadow, lots of grass and flowers, fresh air, birds singing, berries to eat, other critters who wanted to play. Idyllic.

    Blessings and Bear hugs!
