Putting too many flowers on your dead daughter's grave? That's a fining...

The last place you'd expect to encounter bureaucracy is a cemetery, but it turns out that no place is sacred when it comes to Council revenue streams and what they will and won't fine someone for.

You can read more about it at my article this week at Sprocketink.com [link].

  1. What a bunch of sick assholes. That's exploitation right there, plain and simple.

    1. It's definitely not the way you'd expect a grieving mother to be treated.

    1. I know! I don't think it even occurred to me that a cemetery could do something like that.

  3. Omgosh.. Insensitivity doesn't begin to cover it. And you're right, her mom is probably not the only one bringing flowers..

  6. It's definitely not polite but I think military graveyards kinda do the same thing. They won't charge us for leaving too many but the flowers aren't left very long especially not before a major holiday in the States. They will remove them in advance of lots of people visiting to leave more flowers.

    1. And that's fair enough. It's the idea of slapping a fine on the stone for that poor mother to find that really annoyed me.

    1. I always wanted to be buried myself, that's always assuming they still do it when my time comes. They may have run out of real estate by then.

  10. The placement of a note on a headstone is more than just insensitive..it's cruel. People are mourning.

I don't know the way to handle that as it is true that cemeteries are ladened with rules. Where my dad is buried the only flowers that can be placed on his grave are to be in a little metal vase that is provided by each stone. We were aware of this policy when deciding on where he was to be buried. I am not sure that non-family members that weren't privy to the going over the rules would know this.

    1. I can sympathise with the cemetery that it's a hard one. But it really doesn't excuse such blatant cruelty.

  11. At my local city cemetery you are not allowed to leave anything from May to September. They say is interferes with mowing the lawn. It makes me so angry! Bureaucratic B.S.
