Are we taking zero tolerance too far...

Source
Sometimes I really do think our society no longer has a functioning sense of proportion.

Alabama teenager, Christian Adamek, committed suicide earlier this month after he was caught streaking at a school gridiron game.  It's hardly the stuff hardened criminals are made of, and yet he was threatened with legal action and the possibility of being added to the sex offender's registry for indecent exposure.

She can get herself a husband and all she needs to do is make him a few sammiches? Wow, he must be quite the catch...

Source
I like to think of myself as a relatively liberated woman.  I was lucky enough to grow up in an era where girls were told "You can be anything you want to be" and constantly reassured that we were just as good as any boy out there.

Of course, the fact that reassurances like that were still necessary probably dates me more than I'd like, but I still count myself lucky...

How NOT to breastfeed in public...

Source
I'm not a prude, anyone who's ever met me will recognise that fact.  Hell, if the anti-slutshaming rants didn't clue you in, then the fact that I'm trying, with varying levels of success, to write an erotic novel should.  I'm all for people doing whatever the hell they want, provided it doesn't hurt anyone.

But when I read an article the other day about a woman breastfeeding in public, I have to confess I was shocked and more than a little disturbed.

Are you a sexually frustrated housekeeper? Do I have the job for you...

Source
Online auction, retail and trading sites have become incredibly popular over the past few years.  After all, who doesn't love to do a bit of impulse shopping at three in the morning in their underwear?  And as a result, a demand has developed for niche sites that specialise in the more ... shall we say esoteric fields?

I'm worried about what they teach nurses these days if they can't even recognise a kidney...

Source
Donating an organ to a loved one, nothing quite says "I love you" like making that particular sacrifice, does it.

So I can completely understand why an Ohio family were horrified and outraged when the kidney harvested from Paul Fudacz Jr that was intended for his sister, was tossed out by a nurse before he was even out of the anesthetic.

Ah slut-shaming, you rear your ugly head once again...

I have lots of opinions.  Some of them are conservative, some rather liberal, all of them pretty strong. I believe what I believe, I know what I know, and while I don't necessarily require other people to agree with me unquestioningly, I refuse to apologise for my own standpoint.

And having given that disclaimer, sit down my children, I'm going to learn you a thing.

If I'd known how much money there was to be made in World of Warcraft, I wouldn't have suspended my account...

Source
I was always lead to believe that gold farming in World Of Warcraft wasn't a particularly lucrative career.  Don't they always say that Chinese gold farmers make thirty cents an hour or something equally horrendous?

But it turns out there is a way to make a living from playing computer games after all ... although I wouldn't recommend converting said living into gold bullion and storing it in your house.  Really, you're just asking for robbers to come knocking.

Apparently China thinks that death row inmates wear dresses so short you can almost see their hoo-hah...

Source
Oh China ... can you really not tell the difference between a recording of a state sponsored execution and a porn film?

Apparently not.

I did an archaeology degree, so where's my fedora and whip...

Source
Did you guys know that I studied archaeology at University?

It's true.  I absolutely loved doing that course.  Getting to play with all the artifacts in the Uni museum, it was great!  So of course when I read about new archaeological discoveries I tend to get a bit excited.

And opinionated.

Take, for example, the group who think they've found a piece of the True Cross in a Turkish church.  Ho boy, do I have opinions on that one!  Want to read about them?  Head on over to Sprocketink.com [link] for my article this week!

Putting too many flowers on your dead daughter's grave? That's a fining...

Source
The last place you'd expect to encounter bureaucracy is a cemetery, but it turns out that no place is sacred when it comes to Council revenue streams and what they will and won't fine someone for.

You can read more about it at my article this week at Sprocketink.com [link].

If scientists want to make my life easier by creating a diet pill, then I say god's speed, Mr Scientist...

Source
Some people say it's cheating, that it will just lead to more problems than it will solve, but I'm more optimistic.  If science wants to give us a pill that means we don't have to do exercise or watch what we eat anymore, then who am I to question science!

Commit a felony in the 'burbs and they exact their own special brand of vigilante justice...

Source
When I hear the term vigilante justice it conjures up images of angry mobs and hastily knocked together gallows.  But apparently vigilantism in the suburbs is a lot more civilized these days!

When victim blaming takes on a new and incredibly disturbing dimension...

Source
You all know how I feel about victim blaming, so it won't come as any surprise that I had opinions about Nigella Lawson's situation with her husband, and the comments made by a certain Melbourne radio DJ about it.

If you want to read about it, you can go to my article at Sprocketink.com [link] and weigh in on the topic!
